A Faithful Home
I have a blog! I’ve wanted to start a blog for a long time, years really, but I’ve never had the courage. It’s quite intimidating to put your words out there for anyone and everyone to read. Lately, lots of friends have encouraged me to get it started. So here it is!
When I sat down to write this initial post, I struggled. Not because I don’t know what a faithful home is. We could all describe what that looks like. It’s a home that makes every effort to serve God and to like God. A faithful home has parents who teach their children the Word of God and how to make His Word come alive in their own lives.
I had a hard time writing this because I question that I am the right person to be writing on this subject at all. Who am I to be telling others how to have a faithful home? Our family struggles everyday. (Right now I have one grounded in his room- how’s that for starting out a new blog?) We want to serve God and do His will, but we are just like every one else.
All followers of God struggle, and in some ways, that’s comforting to me. When I read the names of all the famous Bible characters listed in Hebrews 11 for their faith, I think back to their full stories in Genesis, Exodus, and other Old Testament books. Their stories were far from perfect. I mean, really far. They lied, cheated, stole, rebelled, lied some more, tried to kill some people and actually killed others. They still are the prime examples of family drama and dysfunction, and yet, God wrote their names in the chapter of the faithful. What a relief to know that I’m not the only one in a messy family. I bet you can relate.
A faithful home isn’t a perfect home with perfect parents and children who do everything they are told to do with smiles on their faces. A faithful home is a try again tomorrow home, a forgive each other home, a keep trusting in God even when it’s hard home. A faithful home is what our family works hard to have. We keep going, pressing toward the goal (Philippians 3:14), and humbly teaching our children how to do the same. So that when our family is called Home, we can be called, “good and faithful” (Matthew 25:21).
If this blog blesses you and encourages you, praise God! It will be a work in progress, as is our family. I don’t have all the answers, but maybe my life lessons can help you just a bit. More than that, I pray that this blog points you toward God and to the path that leads you closer to Him. May God bless you and your faithful home.
